Japanese singer and actress Mariya Yamada has officially announced her divorce from theater actor Toru Kusano after years of living separately.
According to local media, Yamada held a press conference in Tokyo where she confirmed that the couple had decided to end their marriage following approximately five years of separation.
Reason Behind the Divorce
Yamada explained that differences in personality and lifestyle ultimately led to the decision. She emphasized that there were no major conflicts or scandals between them, describing it as a mutual and peaceful divorce.
She also shared that Japan's new joint parental rights system, which took effect in April, gave her confidence to move forward with the divorce.
Her BTS Comment Draws Attention
During the press conference, Yamada made a lighthearted comment that quickly caught fans' attention, saying she likes handsome men but is happy spending time with her son and BTS, adding that she doesn't feel the need to date at the moment.
Mariya Yamada is known for appearing in dramas including Moon Spiral and Akiko Muruo of Inspections. Toru Kusano, who is 12 years older than Yamada, is a veteran theater actor.
