(G)I-DLE (pronounced "Idle") is a South Korean girl group under CUBE Entertainment, debuting in May 2018. The group is notable for member Soyeon's substantial songwriting and production involvement — with Soyeon credited as the primary creative force behind most of the group's music — giving (G)I-DLE a distinct self-producing identity rare among girl groups.
History
Debut and Soyeon-led creative direction
From their debut with "LATATA," (G)I-DLE established an identity around Soyeon's production and the group's willingness to shift radically between concepts. Their early releases spanned traditional Korean-influenced sounds, hip-hop, and pop with consistent critical recognition.
Global breakout
"Queencard" (2023) became their biggest domestic hit, achieving streaming numbers that rivalled much larger-agency acts. "Tomboy" (2022) was a turning point — the girl-crush anthem charted for weeks and crossed into mainstream awareness beyond typical K-pop audiences. (G)I-DLE have sold out arenas globally on world tours.
