MONSTA X is a South Korean boy group under Starship Entertainment, debuting in May 2015 through the survival show No.Mercy. Known for heavy EDM and hip-hop-influenced production, powerful choreography, and an early international following, MONSTA X built one of the strongest Western fanbases among K-pop groups of their generation.

History

Debut and intense concept

MONSTA X formed through Mnet's No.Mercy and debuted with "Trespass," immediately establishing a darker, more intense aesthetic than typical K-pop fare. Their music incorporated heavy electronic production and hip-hop influences, and the group consistently performed well on Korean music shows despite not immediately dominating domestic charts.

International breakthrough

MONSTA X became one of the first K-pop groups to chart significantly on the US Billboard Hot 100 with English-language releases. Their albums consistently performed well on Billboard's World Albums chart, and Monbebe (their fandom) were well-known for aggressive streaming campaigns. "Shoot Out," "DRAMARAMA," and "Rush Hour" are among their most streamed tracks.
