SHINee is a South Korean boy group under SM Entertainment that debuted in 2008 and remain one of the most enduring acts in K-pop. History
Debut and early years
SHINee debuted with "Replay (Noona Neomu Yeppeo)" and established themselves as a performance-focused group with strong vocal identity. Early releases "Ring Ding Dong" and "Lucifer" became defining K-pop tracks of their era, known for technically demanding choreography and a then-unusual blend of pop and electro-funk.
Loss of Jonghyun
In December 2017, member Jonghyun — the group's main vocalist and a prolific solo artist and songwriter — passed away. The remaining four members announced they would continue as SHINee, and have done so through subsequent releases including the well-received HARD album in 2023.
