BLACKPINK is a four-member South Korean girl group under YG Entertainment, debuting in August 2016. The group became the most globally successful K-pop girl group in history, setting numerous records on YouTube, Spotify, and global charts. Their music videos for "Ddu-Du Ddu-Du" and "Kill This Love" broke multiple YouTube records upon release.
History
Debut and rapid rise
BLACKPINK debuted with the simultaneous release of "Whistle" and "Boombayah" — an unusual strategy that immediately signalled a different approach. The group broke barriers early: "Boombayah" became the first K-pop debut song to reach 100 million YouTube views.
Global dominance
BLACKPINK became the first K-pop girl group to perform at Coachella (2019), the first to appear on the cover of Rolling Stone, and the first to reach #1 on the Billboard Hot Trending Songs chart. "How You Like That" set a record for most YouTube views in 24 hours upon release. Their world tour Born Pink (2022–2023) became the highest-grossing tour by a Korean act.
Individual activities and hiatus
All four members pursued solo careers: Jennie released "Solo," Rosé released "On The Ground," Lisa released "LALISA," and Jisoo released "FLOWER." Following the end of their group era in 2023, members' label situations shifted as they pursued individual paths, with a group future confirmed but timeline uncertain.
