NCT Dream is the youth sub-unit of SM Entertainment's NCT system, initially conceived as a "graduating" unit where members would leave upon turning 20. That system was later abandoned, and the current seven members have remained stable since 2019.
History
Debut and rotating membership
NCT Dream debuted in August 2016 with "Chewing Gum," centred on a school-themed concept. Their early years featured a rotating membership system tied to age, which created uncertainty around the unit's lineup.
Stability and growth
After SM officially ended the graduation system, NCT Dream settled into their current seven-member lineup. Hello Future and Glitch Mode became two of their biggest releases, with the latter becoming their first million-seller album. Their "ISTJ" era continued to grow their international standing.
